You will serve as a CONSTRUCTION MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS BUSINESS LINE of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will use a basic understanding of various trade techniques, practice, tools and equipment such as: carpentry, masonry, electrical, sheet metal, painting and drywall at a journey level.
You will visually examine and operationally test to determine need for repair and performance of construction, alteration and repair work at the journey level.
You will follow safety guidelines and practices to avoid unnecessary exposure to hazards and injury.
You will plan material requirements for future projects to accomplish maintenance and operation program goals.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require ability to obtain licenses for operation of Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG) and/or Construction equipment, upon notification.
- At times special certification, licensing, specialized tools/equipment may be required to perform the work. The applicant will be required to acquire any associated qualification requirements.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Repairing and maintaining roofs, masonry structures, floorings, and/or various surfaces. 2) Inspecting and repairing various disposal systems, high-pressure systems, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and/or climate control systems. 3) Determining the necessary tools (e.g. hammers, chisels, brushes, welding equipment, hand and/or power tools) and materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks. 4) Following blueprints and guidelines to accomplish work.
