About the Position: This position is located at the G3 Support Operations, Engagement Skills Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.
Duties
Exercise caution when backing to load or unload at the docks, ramps or similar locations.
Read maps and judge road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest routes.
Use judgment when deciding the manner and sequence of loading cargo to achieve load balance.
Operate a truck with a gross vehicle weight rating of 11,000 pounds.
Select routes, obey all traffic laws and safety regulations when operating a motor vehicle.
Perform inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is subject to a pre-employment medical clearance examination and requires an annual physical examination.
- May be required to wear protective gear, i.e. gloves, eye protection, steel toed shoes/boots.
- This position requires the employee drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position.
- A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required and must be obtained and maintained for the duration of employment in this position. Failure to maintain a CDL could result in removal from the position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift operator certificate within two weeks of initial employment.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will participate in drug urinalysis testing.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Motor Vehicle Operator (Material Handler) duties. I can 1) operate a truck with a gross vehicle weight rating of 11,000 pounds and air brakes; 2) secure cargo using tie down ropes, straps, or tarpaulin; 3) operate forklifts capable of lifting 2,000 to 15,000 pounds; and 4) use a computer to enter, revise, and retrieve data. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort:
Motor Vehicle Operator: Driver uses more than moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls of assigned vehicle.
Materials Handler: Works on hard surfaces and areas that require continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and walking up and down stairs. May work at rapid pace for extended periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries items up to 80 pounds, occasionally lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds. Is required to push heavily loaded hand trucks and dollies, or drive forklift to handle heavier objects.
Working Conditions:
Motor Vehicle Operator: Works mostly outside, operating vehicles in all types of weather and installation traffic.
Materials Handler: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. Employee is exposed to dirt, fumes and grease, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects while loading, unloading ammunition.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
