Duties
Serves as the department head in the Correctional Services department at a Bureau of Prisons correctional institute. Serves as the resident expert on all custodial and security questions arising at the institution and has full and final technical responsibility when problems occur during the course of any given shift. Responsible for institutional security, inmate conduct and discipline, inmate work, control of hazardous tools and material, safety, sanitation, control and use of institution vehicles, and key control. Inspects facilities, observes personnel and inmates from the standpoint of security, morale and employee-inmate relations, and overall program coordination. Serves as an advisor to the Warden and his staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs. Integrates policies and procedures into the overall operations of the facility, as well as the correctional department and keep management advised of activities effecting institution programs. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff's correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience preparing, changing, and implementing post orders.
Experience preparing and maintaining the biweekly and daily assignment rosters.
Experience conducting regularly scheduled instruction and training classes relating to correctional procedures and techniques.
Experience preparing annual/quarterly budget for the department.
