Correctional officers are responsible for overseeing individuals who have been arrested, convicted or are awaiting trial in a correctional facility, including prisons, jails, and detention centers. They must maintain order and discipline within the facility, and ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors. This involves monitoring and enforcing rules and regulations, conducting searches, responding to emergencies, and escorting inmates to and from various locations.
Correctional officers must be physically fit, have strong communication skills, and be able to remain calm in stressful situations. They must also have a good understanding of human behavior and be able to recognize potentially dangerous situations. It is a demanding and often dangerous profession, but plays a critical role in the justice system by helping to rehabilitating offenders and keeping communities safe.
