About the Position: This position is located at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence.
This is a TERM position NTE 36 Months 3 years.
This position is a TERM position that may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, TERM appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Duties
Serve as Publications Officer for the Aviation Technical Library.
Maintain extensive collection of books, serials, periodicals, technical manuals, regulations, pamphlets and publications.
Provide ready reference and research assistance to library clientele.
Interacts with clientele and explains basic searching techniques to locate material in the online public access catalog, Internet resources, print and we-based periodical indexes, CD-ROM server and electronic storage files, and other finding aids.
Maintain the library's reception and circulation desk.
Prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and other documents using a personal computer or word processor.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) assisting clientele in the use of library resources to locate materials (e.g. books, reports, periodicals) and/or (2) searching online data base for cataloging information on newly accessioned material. And/or (3) researching information utilizing automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
