The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER, WL-6652-10 is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. The leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work.

Duties

1. Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers. 2. Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led. 2. Provide guidance, direction, and instruction to assigned mechanics on all maintenance records and documentation. 3. Prepare aircraft egress and escape systems for flight. Installs and removes explosive cartridges in aircraft fire extinguishing systems in preparation for aircraft flight. 4. De-arm and make safe for maintenance aircraft egress and escape systems, aircraft ordnance, armament and weapons systems components in preparation for aircraft storage

  • Incumbent must have completed aircrew egress systems apprentice course or have equivalent training/experience IAW AFMCI 21-108.
  • Incumbent must be able to qualify to operate a government vehicle.
  • Incumbent will be required to substitute for branch supervisor during supervisor absences.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 - Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work includes active physical effort, walking, standing, pulling, pushing, and moderately heavy lifting at all times with occasional heavy lifting up to approximately 75 pounds with human or mechanical assistance. Works in strained and cramped positions. Climbs in and on aircraft and work stands with the possibility of falling. Requires manual dexterity, mechanical skill and ability, and precise hand-eye coordination necessary for system disassembly, functional checks and assembly. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works inside and outside. Subject to extreme outside summer and winter desert temperatures. Exposed to hazards of electrical shock and danger from inadvertently actuated explosive components such as catapults, rocket motors, removers, initiators, cartridges, squibs, shape charges, ammunition etc. Exposed to the noise of operating aircraft engines. Works with and is exposed to the fumes of hazardous chemicals such as solvents, grease, oil, paints and adhesives. Individual is exposed to potential for injuries associated with the use of common and special hand tools and equipment.
