The National Institutes of Health invites candidates with strong operational, clinical research, and leadership credentials to apply for the position of Biologist (Molecular Assays), Department of Transfusion Medicine and Center for Cellular Engineering at the NIH, Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD.

Duties

As a GS-0401 Biologist (Molecular Assays), your duties may include but are not limited to the following: Performing a wide variety of complex experimental procedures required for evaluating clinical cell and gene therapies such as DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, real-time PCR, droplet digital PCR, high throughput microarray analysis, Next Generation Sequencing, ELISA, cell culture, and isolation. Prepares specimens for analysis ensuring that the physiologic state of the specimen properties is maintained. Specimen preparation involves DNA and RNA extraction from a variety of gene and cellular therapeutic products. Provide authoritative advice and consultation for more difficult, complex, or unique tests requiring special knowledge in cellular and molecular Biology; Immunology, and Biochemistry responsibility for performing procedures in all aspects of laboratory testing and developing novel molecular assays to support the clinical cell-processing laboratory. Write policies, Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) research reports, keep policies and procedure manuals and research reports up to date in accordance with established procedures and policies.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Biologist (Molecular Assays), GS-401 position you must meet the following Education Requirements: A. Completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university; OR B. A combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university, AND appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. In Addition to the above basic requirement, in order to qualify for a Biologist (Molecular Assays), GS-0401 position at the GS-11 level you must have: A. 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that is directly related to the duties of this position; OR B. 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning and performing scientific experiments and projects in support of a clinical cell processing laboratory, writing and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) assist in developing and preparing scientific reports, analytical interpretations, and performing a wide variety of complex experimental procedures required for evaluating clinical cell and gene therapies such as DNA and RNA isolation, PCR/ddPCR, sequencing (NGS); OR C. a combination of post baccalaureate education related to the position and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
