About the Position: You will perform as a Maintenance Worker/Helper in a variety of operation and maintenance duties at a comprehensive water resource project consisting of a flood control dam and appurtenant structures, public-use recreational facilities, forest lands, and roads. Seasonal Positions: Seasonal position employees will be placed in non-pay status during the off season.

Duties

Rearrange, modify, and hooks up outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers to installed systems Perform oiling, cleaning, and minor adjustments on shop equipment. Uses hand tools and test equipment such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, test lamps, and ammeters. Perform basic carpentry work associated with maintaining operations buildings and public access areas. Maintain, repair, modify for accessibility, and occasionally constructs structures of concrete, block, and occasionally brick or other related materials. Assist in installing, modifying, and repairing existing and new utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water and oil distribution systems, water closets, tubs, and showers. Repair or replace broken downspouts and gutters on dwelling, garage, shop building, and gate house. Monitor river and/or lake stages at flood control project. Clear brush and wooded areas, using chain saw, axe, etc. Digs and refills ditches and compacts eroded soil banks, asphalt surfaces on parking areas. Shovels snow from sidewalks.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment, for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state water treatment plant operator's license commensurate with the level required to operate the project's water plant(s).
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state sewage treatment plant operator's license commensurate with the level required to operate the project's sewage treatment plant(s).
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to perform duties of position issued by the state of residence.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment.
  • Heavy physical lifting is required of this position. Incumbent must be able to lift objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Incumbent is required to wear the appropriate uniform for this position. The maintenance uniform shall be worn in accordance with EP 1130-2-520 Chapter 7.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform wildfire suppression duties.
  • Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with this position.
  • The Government has a Licensing Program which includes but is not limited to Dump Truck, Truck and Trailer, Crane, Forklift, and Construction Equipment.
  • May be selected at any grade level with non-competitive promotion potential to target grade. Non-competitive promotion potential to the target grade based on time-in-grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the higher graded duties.

Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways, and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 lbs with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift 50 pounds while working alone include but are not limited to lifting and carrying a five gallon can of kerosene, lifting and carrying a 50 pound bag of wildlife seed, lifting and carrying a 5 gallon can of paint, cleaning liquid or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person include but are not limited to moving furniture and lifting 80 lb. bags of cement. WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops subject to dangers such as but not limited to falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones or infections. Incumbent may work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable.
