The primary purpose of this position is: To exercise second level supervisory and managerial authorities over group operations (standardization/evaluation, plans/programs, and budgeting/programming), for the 820th Base Defense Group.

Duties

Duty 1: Advises the operational activities of 820th Base Defense Group. Duty 2: Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Duty 3: Represents base defense group with a variety of installation, functional area organizations, numbered air force, MAJCOM, and HAF. Duty 4: Advises on full range of integrated defense operations and oversees special projects, initiatives and special assignments to include long-term planning, functional/technical advice and guidance, and continuity of management.

  • This is a Drug Testing Designated position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
  • The employee will be required to obtain and maintain a top secret security clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 86) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenburg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, such as long periods of observing and controlling field training exercises by walking, running, crawling, and similar activities.
  • This is a Key position. The duties of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. Must be removed from their military recall status.
  • Department of Defense Physical Security Certification conferral is required within 2 years of the established employee EOD

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes applying knowledge of a wide range of security forces and police programs, policies, procedures, and practices related to the operations, contingency plans, standardization and evaluation, self inspections, budget/resources and training functions. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of and possess the ability to plan, organize, and advise the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of security forces and police programs, policies, procedures, and practices related to the operations, contingency plans, standardization and evaluation, self-inspections, budget/resources and training functions. 2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Ability to plan, organize, and advise the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors. 4. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. 5. Ability to plan, organize and advise the functions and staff of a large sized organization. 6. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. 7. Knowledge of overall integrated defense/force protection missions, functions, and structure. Other Significant Facts: A completed bachelor's degree or AF officer/SNCO professional development requirements to include SOS, ISC, or SNCOA is desirable. This position has access to classified information. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
