This is a formal Air Force intern position, established under the PALACE Acquire (PAQ) program. This program is intended to develop broad gauged individuals that may deal effectively with change and complexity within the Air Force environment as it relates to their career field.

Duties
Assesses needs and provides continuing work/life services to leadership, organizations, and serviced populations within assigned units and in the Family Support Center.
Develops, implements, and manages installations work/life services programs, establishing goals, objectives, and procedures in accordance with applicable state and DoD, Air Force and other federal guidance, regulations, and laws.
Consults with on- and off-site community leadership officials on work/life and related issues.
Designs and establishes marketing and public relations strategies to ensure target populations are informed of services and activities.

- Mobility is a conditions of employment. The employee must sign an Air Force-wide mobility agreement.
- Travel by regularly scheduled commercial or military conveyance in accordance with Joint Travel Regulations my be required in performance of TDY.
- This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507.
- Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.

- Travel and/or relocation expenses will not be paid.
- Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
- This position is obligated. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights. When a position is obligated to an employee it means that he/she has an entitlement to that position.
- When an obligated position is filled, the selected employee is required to sign an agreement acknowledging that (s)he is aware of the obligation and accepts the fact that (s)he may be displaced under reduction in force procedures at a later time.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions + IOR
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
-OR-
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
-OR-
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of and experience in applying a wide range of concepts, principles, and theories relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields and of social services delivery systems to analyze and interpret complete social and behavioral data concerning the client; and to assess factors of personality structure and dynamics as they affect findings of aptitudes and interests.

EDUCATION: Successfully completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree related to the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of social services delivery systems as well as a wide range of concepts, principles, theories, and practices relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields.
2. Skill in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues, provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services/options when frequently there is difficulty in determining clients' needs or wants or in convincing them to accept that problems exist.
3. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interactions with individuals/families, leadership of organizations, and with program representatives and officials.
4. Ability to assess and measure organizations' trends, concerns, and needs; assist in identifying and prioritizing goals; and provide guidance and direction for the development and implementation of effective plans and tools to address such issues.
5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
