About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Target System Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator), Assisting range complex manager and supporting personnel. Coordinating and controlling installation training areas and facilities. Inspecting and overseeing usage of training areas by units training on the installation.

Duties

Inspects and troubleshoots electrical pop-up target mechanisms on ranges. Ensures that controls and target mechanisms are operational prior to and after use. Services and issues informational materials and maintains logs in support of training. Inspects and oversees usage of training areas by units training on the installation. Coordinates and control installation training areas and facilities. Inspects and service ranges, training areas, facilities and firing positions before live fire exercises.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

  • A current State drivers license is required. Must be able to operate both a four-wheel drive vehicle with standard transmission and an off-road all-terrain vehicle. Work requires driving on hazardous roads and terrain.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires rotation between training areas shift work, and weekend/holiday work and overtime may be required.
  • Incumbent must be in good physical condition. Work requires frequent exposure to foul weather conditions.
  • Position requires Range Safety Training and Certification, which may be obtain within one year of employment. Inability to obtain and maintain this certification may result in termination.
  • This position is a Designated Mission Essential Position: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in all kinds of weather in an outdoor environment; however, some work is performed in an office environment. Some work is performed at range sites where the exposures to hazardous materials or instruments exist.
