This position is located in the Nutrition and Dietitian Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, in Phoenix, AZ. The Food Service Worker/Cashier primary purpose is to collect, safeguard, and account for and turn in cash collected form cafeteria meal sales. When position is not engaged in operating the cash collection duties, other food service duties are performed; such as replenishing the cafeteria with supplies, serving, and cleaning of cafeteria.

Duties

Operates electronic cash register and the meal tracker system. Receives cash from customers and provides change. Safeguards money, keeps cash locked except when making change. Sets up food service counters, tables and stands with designated food and non-food items. Serves cafeteria-style and assembles patient trays and nourishments. Assists cooks using portion control scales and measuring recipe ingredients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, Grade 4:A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Your background must demonstrate experience in following oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing Food Service Worker duties in a medical or nonmedical institution including: preparation of food items not requiring cooking, providing assistance to cooks, setting up tray lines with correct supplies and food items, and delivering and picking up patient trays Physical Effort: Food service workers at this grade level perform work requiring light to moderate physical effort. They are subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. They frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) unassisted (e.g., pushing small carts of dirty dishes) and occasionally lift or move objects weighing more than 9 kilograms (20 pounds) (e.g., filling beverage dispensers) with the assistance of other workers. Working Condition: The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
