About the Position: Performs and leads others in the performance of repair and maintenance work of pumping stations and flood control project gates, operating systems and machinery and other associated features on mobile equipment.

Duties

Function as a working leader of 3 or more employees while performing non-supervisory duties of the same types as those being led. Explain what tasks are to be done by assigned employees and how they are to be accomplished if necessary. Determine equipment, materials, labor, etc. necessary to complete the required work. Lead or personally carries out the more complex repair tasks in maintenance activities which require application of journeyman skills, including the WG-11 skill level and below, in a wide variety of trades and crafts Determine modification and/or machine requirements for major repair and/or overhaul or maintenance of pumping station and flood control structure. Perform welder duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes. Install, maintain, and repair electric wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels, and outlet boxes as well as a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances. Perform various other tasks in connection with the maintenance, repair, or replacement of equipment, wooden and masonry structures which include but are not limited to earth work, carpentry, painting, concrete finishing skills. Review and assign maintenance work orders, documents completed work including labor and materials and returns to supervisor.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A is required.
  • Position requires a pre-employment physical exam due to the physical requirements of the position.
  • Position subject to drug and alcohol testing: This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army.
  • Must be physically able to do relatively heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 25% of the duty time.
  • Shift work is required.
  • One-year probationary period.
  • Must possess a state-issued driver’s license to operate a government vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in completing both minor and major repairs in accordance with approved work orders; Assigning work to others based on own assessments of individual employee experience, skills, workload, and competence. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility to Plan and Organize WorkAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentAbility to Use Prints and DrawingsKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Physical Effort: Makes repairs on equipment or in installations often on high or hard to reach areas from ladders or platforms. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items and operates equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Works outside the majority of time in all types of weather. Is subject to injury by tools, equipment, missiles, and similar objects. Is exposed to mud, dirt, dust, chemical compounds, high noise levels, burns, and fumes. Is subject to danger of falls and drowning while working on moving equipment and structures over or on water. Works behind bulkheads below water level. Characteristically works on or adjacent to water. Occasionally works at heights over 30 feet.
