Duties
Researches and maintains files and other reference material to organize and present information when preparing reports or responding to routine correspondence.
Prepares reports/summaries/personnel actions for review by supervisor. Contacts appropriate personnel to ensure corrective action is taken to correct errors encountered.
Receives visitors and phone calls, ascertaining the nature of requests and directing callers to appropriate staff, or personally providing the information desired when routine or procedural matters of the office are involved.
Performs a variety of general clerical tasks such as: Time and Attendance; schedules appointments, arranges time, participants, and location of meetings; makes travel arrangements for activity personnel.
Maintains suspense records on all correspondence and action documents and follows up to ensure a timely reply action.
Types correspondence by using facts given by the supervisor and available references.

Qualifications
To qualify for an Administrative Assistant (OA) GS-0303-05, your qualifications must include:
A. Specialized Experience: To qualify at the GS-05 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience are identified in the Major Duties section of this vacancy announcement.
Examples of creditable specialized experience include:
Types routine correspondence for review by supervisor.
Receives and files correspondence, records, and reports and maintains copies of regulations and directives, and files changes
Gathers and summarizes data on assigned programs using a variety of sources
B. Education: To qualify at the GS-05 level based on education, in lieu of specialized experience, applicants must possess 4 years above high school. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Education must be from a college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. See http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx. If using education to
meet basic qualifications, YOU MUST SUBMIT A TRANSCRIPT as supplemental documentation
C. Combination: only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
