Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Office of the Director, Office of the Deputy Director, Office of the Assistant Director of Staff in Sterling, VA or Washington, DC. At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 1) Manages the Deputy Director's calendar, travel, and other arrangements based on knowledge of priorities and preference. Meets with the Deputy Director on a regular basis to go over short- and long-term calendar items. Arranges domestic travel for the Deputy Director by securing transportation, car rental and hotel accommodations. Verifies data submitted, procures signatures and prepares travel authorizations and vouchers.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet either A, B, or C below for the series/grade to which you are applying. GS-09 A. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-09, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) maintaining a calendar involving scheduling appointments, cancelling engagements, or making appropriate adjustments; 2) coordinating with multiple offices within an organization to compile and prepare briefing information, and 3) arranging official travel to include developing itineraries, making reservations, and drafting travel authorizations. MUST MEET ALL. -OR- B. Education: Have 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D. if related). Education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) -OR- C. Combination: Have a combination of graduate level education beyond the first year of progressive graduate study and appropriate experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. (Example: 1.5 years in a Master's program (50%) plus 6 months of specialized experience (50%) = 100%) GS-11: A. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-11, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) managing long-range senior leader calendars through planning and documenting work schedules, speaking engagements, and meetings; 2) preparing correspondence and action documents for leadership review and/or signature consistent with agency policy; 3) arranging travel to include planning agendas, making flight and hotel reservations, and preparing travel vouchers; and 4) managing records and electronic files in accordance with established records retention rules and regulations. MUST MEET ALL. -OR- B. Education: Posession of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) -OR- C. Combination: A combination of specialized experience and education that totals 100% of the requirement. Only education in excess of the first year of progressively higher level graduate education toward a Ph.D. or the equivalent graduate degree may be used toward this combination.
