THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION
This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1254000 and is part of the FL SMO, National Guard.
Duties
As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST (TITLE 32), GS-1601-9, you will analyze and resolve a variety of conventional maintenance management problems to improve existing maintenance operations, production, and practices that impact the overall maintenance program. Analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of maintenance management, repair, and training; and the need for improving existing practices. Develop goals and plans to ensure maintenance production standards are met. Coordinate with shop leadership to resolve conflicts affecting maintenance production or the shop backlog rate. Assess impact on the maintenance shop due to new equipment fielding, mission changes, new directives, manpower utilization and authorizations, etc. Work with other organizations to increase the effectiveness of the maintenance program.

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Security Clearance requirements are determined by position and/or MOS/AFSC compatibility.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- National Guard Membership is required.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709" and is open to Category 1: All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency Category 3: All current military members of the Florida National Guard; and Category 4: All individuals who qualify for membership in the Florida National Guard and are willing to become T32 Dual Status technicians. First consideration will be given to Category 1.
PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.

MILITARY GRADES: Enlisted/Warrant Officer/Officer; E5 thru O3.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with a knowledge of equipment maintenance work, or skill in reading engineering drawings and specifications, using test instruments, making computations, and keeping records. Experience using computer and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-09 Must have at least 1-year specialized experience to at least the next lower grade, GS-07 that provided experience, education or training applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment, facility, or service operations sufficient in designing projects or planning assignments. Experience using well-established occupational methods and techniques to determine facility, grounds, equipment overhaul, maintenance, restoration, repair needs, etc.
Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related
