The incumbent functions as primary support for the Assistant Director of the Eastern Kansas VA Health Care System and primary point of contact for the Executive Office for the Leavenworth, KS. Campus.
Duties

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-8. At the GS-7 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-8. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds.
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Receives patients and visitors to the Executive Offices;
Refers telephone callers to the appropriate party;
Provides information regarding the facility and respond to inquiries over the phone;
Reviews all outgoing correspondence for format, style, spelling and grammar to ensure their accuracy and correctness;
Takes meeting minutes;
Makes arrangements for travel using automated travel systems;
Maintains an executive appointment calendar;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 7:30am-4:30pm

Qualifications
Typing Proficiency: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

To qualify for this position at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-6) in Federal Service, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties and that is typically in or related to the work of this position? Specialized experience includes performing administrative support functions such as tracking data and statistical information; scheduling appointments; coordinating meetings and conferences; preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication; preparing travel arrangements; utilizing office automation software and maintaining files; receiving visitors and telephone calls to the office. Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position. Your resume must include job title, duties performed in detail, start and ending dates (month and year) AND hours worked per week.

Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and must possess excellent organizational skills. At this level, applicants will perform duties independently and exercise sound judgement. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work.
