This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as the administrative and legal assistant to AMLC-APG senior leaders, including the Chief Counsel, an SES-level executive, Deputy Chief Counsel, Military Deputy/Staff Judge Advocate, and Legal Administrator, AMLC-APG attorneys and paraprofessionals, located at, APG MD.
Duties
Serve as the administrative and legal assistant to AMLC-APG senior leaders, as well as all AMLC-APG attorneys and paraprofessionals.
Independently perform administrative matters, to include receiving and screening incoming information through electronic mail, phone calls, or written correspondence.
Draft, prepare, review, and track legal correspondence, memorandums, briefings and presentations, and executive notes.
Assist and advise attorney action officers on all procedural and administrative aspects of staff actions.
Serve in a variety of administrative roles supporting the Legal Center attorneys including, but not limited to the following:
Automated Time and Attendance Production System (ATAAPS) Timekeeper: performing end-of-pay period checks to ensure automated timecards are completed accurately.
Alternate Security Officer: ensuring all employees are issued security access badges during onboarding and all badges are turned in during out-processing.
Government Purchase Cardholder: purchasing goods or services in accordance with established Department policy, procurement regulations, and individual internal office procedures.
Perform legal research including researching legal reference files for specific information such as pertinent Federal and State statutes, cases, briefs, opinions and other points of legal significance.
Key Control Custodian: maintains all forms and records required for key control, ensures that adequate control of all keys is accomplished within the custodial area as directed by the Key Control Officer and the SOP.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance, or access, for duration of employment.
- This position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Performing legal administrative and clerical processes to include preparing and/or reviewing documents (e.g., legal and administrative documents); 2) Interpreting legal rules, regulations, or written guidelines to assist in reviewing administrative actions to include reviewing documents for accuracy in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; 3) Utilize office management software systems; 4) Maintaining file systems; and obtaining needed information from files or general reference sources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service NK-02(GS-10).
