About the Position: The Client Services Division provides legal support to eligible clients on their personal legal issues. It is our privilege to provide proactive legal support to all authorized clients, including military members, family members and retirees.
Duties
Serve as assistant to the attorneys of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Client Services Division.
Use judgment to resolve clients problems or make referrals as necessary to attorneys, appropriate agencies, and organizations.
Assist clients independently by providing information on a variety of personal legal such as wills and separation agreements, powers of attorney, and consumer law products.
Draft legal documents and correspondence. Ensuring that all correspondence/documents are prepared using the proper format, capitalization, grammar, spelling and clarity.
Independently act on behalf of the Legal Assistance office by contacting various businesses, insurance companies, or local courts to obtain relevant information for client cases as well as conduct legal research in various jurisdictions.
Review and evaluate medical records, police blotters, line of duty investigations to support/identify claims. Interview and locate witnesses for tort claim processing. Collect and preserve relevant evidence. Process tort claim payments.
Work performed may require creativity, and a working knowledge of relevant law.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing administrative and clerical processes to include preparing and/or reviewing documents (e.g., court documents, real estate documents, contracts, insurance or benefits claims, mortgage or loan applications, tax forms, or other types of legal or administrative documents); 2) Interpreting rules, regulations, or written guidelines to assist in reviewing administrative actions to include reviewing documents for accuracy in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; 3) Utilizing office management software systems, such as the Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Power Point, and Microsoft Access or similar databases. 4) Maintaining file systems; and obtaining needed information from files or general reference sources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education
