Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Operation Support, CBP Watch located in Orlando, Florida.

Duties

Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Operations Support will allow you to use your expertise as a critical point of contact for the law enforcement community on matters concerning the protection of our nation's borders. This position starts at a salary of $59,966.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $77,955.00 (GS-11, Step 10) with promotion potential to $94,317.00GS-11 Step 10). Sector Enforcement Specialist duties include: Coordinating needed assistance and dispensing requested law enforcement data in real-time by utilizing radios, telephones and other technological communications devices. Monitoring and operating the Key Management Facility (KMF) and other Over-the-Air Rekey (OTAR) network equipment for the performance of basic subscriber configuration in the KMF database, rekeying and other basic functions required in support of the OTAR program. Analyzing, evaluating, and monitoring identified or potential problem areas and providing recommendations regarding law enforcement activity and overall system performance; and Using report generators and other means to extract applicable data from national, regional, and local law enforcement information systems.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Facilitating communications with control centers capable of plotting the positions of enforcement personnel and potential targets on navigation, air, and other charts. Supporting enforcement personnel and others in all facets of communications via an integrated communication system that utilizes radios, telephones, teletype, email, facsimile equipment and other technological communication devices. Providing emergency assistance to law enforcement personnel by radio or telephone notifying other CBP personnel, other Federal law enforcement officers, or the nearest state or local police as required. Providing the supervisor with objective and quantitative findings and recommendations concerning areas in which the communication center's operations can be improved and develops associated product deliverables as assigned. Education Substitution: Master's or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D that demonstrates the skills necessary to do the work. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 11/22/2024.
