About the Position: The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a Public Safety Telecommunicator for dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), and Law Enforcement (LE) responders, monitoring alarms and activating Mass Notification Systems in Army Garrison Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) / 911 Centers.

Duties

Serve as a Public Safety Telecommunicator for dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), and Law Enforcement (LE) responders. Implement regulations, directives, policies, and protocols that direct work processes. Prioritize and respond to variety calls for services and determine appropriate methods. Tracks response times and documents state, local, and military specific law enforcement electronic database systems to support law enforcement and installation access. Provides advanced emergency medical dispatch life support care through pre-arrival instructions to callers based on program standards at the assigned location.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
  • Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
  • Incumbent must be a qualified typist. ( 40 wpm).
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
  • The incumbent is subject to initial and random urinalysis testing in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned.
  • Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
  • Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes operating multi-line telephones, computers or radio equipment to provide information to callers; obtaining detailed information from callers and inputting data collected into databases and software systems; communicating orally to a wide range of people to obtain and provide information; and complying with standard operating procedures in a fast-paced and changing environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
