Duties

Distributes and balances the workload among employees assigned to a specific shift. Instructs shift employees in specific duties and techniques per established procedures. Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established policies and practices. Checks on work in progress to ensure accomplishment of assigned duties. Receives and evaluates 911 emergency calls. Dispatches a variety of emergency equipment to include police, fire, ambulance, Med-Evac, rescue or hazardous materials units based on call. Refers non-emergent callers to appropriate civilian and governmental agencies. Maintains records, reports and logs on all communication traffic, assigned vehicle movements, patient transports, personnel and vehicle status per established procedures. Operates Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, radios and station alerting systems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Requires Secret Clearance (Tier 3).
  • Incumbent is required to work (inclement weather/mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain, within 6 months of employment, DoD Telecommunicator I and II (or equivalent) and DoD Hazmat Awareness levels.
  • The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain, within 6 months of employment, Emergency Medical Dispatch, a Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (LLETS) Operator, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certifications.
  • Work is performed on an alternate work schedule with rotating shift, which includes weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Incumbent is required to wear prescribed uniform.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
  • Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.
  • You may be required to sign a Statement of Understanding if you are selected for this position.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
