The Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking a highly qualified Laborer to work in the Facilities Department. The incumbent will be assigned to Facilities Building/Grounds Unit.

Specific duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following: Daily cleanup and removal of trash and smoking articles from the grounds. Prunes trees to remove dead limbs and to aid in proper growth. Repair asphalt roads, potholes, and ramps Snow and ice removal from the medical center grounds Move heavy furniture, freezers, refrigerators, equipment, etc. Assist facilities journeyman as requested Perform monthly inspections of GSA and other vehicles assigned to the medical center Mowing and upkeep of grass Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD04051A Physical Requirements: Work requires heavy physical effort with frequent lifting and moving of heavy equipment and materials. Incumbent is required to routinely lift objects weighting up to 80 lbs. and occasionally items much heavier. Work will be mostly outside in hot, cold, dusty, and windy conditions. In rain, snow, and sleet. Expected to respond to call backs when properly notified. May spend long hours in harsh environments during and after regular duty hours. Must be in good mental and condition

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
