This position is located in the Division of Medical Services at the Fort Yuma Service Unit, Winterhaven, CA. The purpose of this position is to perform a combination of technical (non-professional medical) and administrative tasks related to the treatment and care of patients in a medical home/ambulatory environment. This position reports to the Chief Nurse Executive.
Duties
Conducts intake procedures; obtains general medical information, including allergies and drug sensitivities; and takes and records vital signs (TPR-temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, weight).
Assess/Triage patients as prescribed by hospital or clinic policy (i.e,. Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA). Performs a full range of activities pertinent to the containment and prevention of hospital acquired infections.
Ensures medical records are prepared and available. Ensures proper computer entry of patient data and equipment settings.
Assess age-specific screening protocols (i.e. Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA), indicators; medication review; pain assessment; growth/development, Body Mass Index (BMI), physical activity, nutritional status; BP control, glycemic control, etc.); monitors patient health and general well-being.
Performs less complex dressing and treatments without assistance. Assist with cleaning, irrigating, and dressing complex wounds; documents and informs RN of non-healing wounds. Performs skin care measures.
Current and active Certified Medical Assistant certification (CMA) through successfully passing certification exams from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant certification (RMA) from American Medical Technologists (AMT), or National Certified Medical Assistant certification (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) preferred.
Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. OR
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-05:
Have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Determining patient assessment, distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings, and administering intervention as prescribed by the provider, typical of medical assistant or health education positions. OR
Have completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. OR
Have a combination of education and experience that when combined, fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-06:
Have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Venipuncture, collecting lab specimens, performing basic wound/skin care measures, and administering oral medication, performs subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, typical of experienced medical assistant or health education positions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-07:
Have 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Providing complex health care to high risk patients, using specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, EKG, interpreting examination requests accurately and recognizing a need for additional tests, and establishing a patient care plan, typical of experienced or senior medical assistant or health technician positions. OR
Have completed 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR
Have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
