As a Supervisory Attorney-Adviser (CR) (Assistant Regional Attorney) at the GS-0905-15, you will be part of Legal Unit New York District Office, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If selected, you will be responsible for recommending and conducting all litigation with respect to the matters investigated by the district's enforcement units where conciliation has failed and for supervising trial attorneys, paralegals and other support staff in these efforts.
Duties
Responsible for assisting with managing, directing, and supervising the district's Legal Unit.
Ensures that Legal Unit staff provide appropriate advice to the district’s enforcement staff during the investigation and conciliation of charges and serves as a hands-on resource in the development of systemic discrimination cases.
Oversees the development of difficult legal theories and the preparation of complex legal documents, and directs the preparation of court hearings and trials.
Recommends proposed changes in policies and procedures based on operational experience in order to achieve the efficient, effective, and economical accomplishment of the agency's goals and objectives.
Develops programs for staff training in current or new processes and procedures, including the training of attorneys on the law and the litigation process.
Makes recommendations to the Associate General Counsel or Regional Attorney regarding resolution of Commission cases.
Works with enforcement and legal staff to identify potential litigation vehicles, including those involving complex systemic discrimination issues. Ensures that the litigation work of the Unit is performed effectively and efficiently.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
- Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
- Must have an Active BAR Membership in Good Standing. If selected, must maintain active bar membership in good standing while employed as an attorney with EEOC
- This position is in the Excepted Service
Qualifications
For the GS-15:You must have earned a professional law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member of the BAR, and have 4 years of professional legal experience with at least one year being equivalent to the GS-14 level.
Professional legal education above the first professional law degree may be substituted for experience required as follows:(a) The second professional law degree (LL.M) may be substituted for one year of experience (b) The third law degree (J.S.D) may be substituted for one year of experience beyond the LL.M.
