Duties
As a Health Communications Specialist you will:
Develop, implement, and manage national communication and marketing programs, including demonstration projects or initiatives for health care providers, public health professionals, the public and populations at risk.
Provide guidance and expertise to others about developing, testing, and disseminating science- and audience-based products, tools, and messages (i.e., via written, electronic, and audiovisual formats).
Conduct and manage health communication audience research and program evaluation activities for health communication and marketing.
Assist management with the administrative oversight of state, regional, or national public health communication and marketing projects and campaigns.
Liaise with other CIO communicators and with external stakeholders and communication staff on cross-cutting issues.
Provide advice, technical assistance and leadership in planning and developing health communication and marketing priorities, campaigns, strategies, and practices for effective communication and marketing directed toward professional and lay audiences, including underserved populations and populations at risk.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: managing, developing, implementing, disseminating, and evaluating health communication and marketing messages.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
