About the Position: Responsible for officer and enlisted military personnel management activities of the Medical Readiness Brigade - National Capital Region S1. The S1 coordinates and processes the military personnel actions for a high volume of Soldiers in several subordinate units. A thorough knowledge of Department of the Army (DA), United States Medical Command (MEDCOM), United States Army Medical Center (USAMEDCEN), and military personnel regulations, policies and procedures is preferred.
Duties
Monitor suspense items and prepare correspondence.
Review, examine, evaluate and analyze Department of the Army publications and Military Personnel (MILPER) messages associated with Military Personnel Management to determine their applicability and impact on personnel services.
Keep track of current publications on military personnel operations and ensure the publications for Officer/NCO Evaluations, Officer/Enlisted Promotions are current.
Provide technical guidance to subordinate units in the area of military personnel actions and the maintenance of personnel records.
Draft correspondence concerning aspects of officer and enlisted military personnel activities.
Within established guidelines and procedures, execute officer and enlisted military functions.
Requirements
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% or less of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) executing and managing military personnel programs; 2) analyzing documents related to personnel; 3) processing personnel actions; and 4) advising on personnel issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Human Resource Management or Business Administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
