This position is located in the Cash Management Department of a Consolidated Patient Account Center (CPAC) serving as the Mail and File Clerk.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Reviews incoming miscellaneous materials such as mail, publications, directives, etc. and presorts these into action and/or information categories.
Maintains suspense files for replies and follow up on overdue items.
Performs administrative and/or clerical tasks in support of various office functions such as establishing and maintaining office files, collating documents, preparing folders, etc.
Processes incoming and/or outgoing mail, including the processing of express mail.
Performs general mail handling and distribution including sorting, opening, date stamping, classifying, processing, and routing mail.
Maintains logs or records of special items received and/or distributed.
Serves as a Motor Vehicle Operator for the Consolidated Patient Account Center (CPAC). Makes scheduled mail runs and conducts pickups and deliveries as required.
Screens outgoing materials for proper format and to assure that they are assembled and addressed in accordance with appropriate regulations.
Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy and protects data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
Conducts follow-up with Veterans through telephonic, electronic, or written media to insure that services provided were adequate and appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify at the GS-4 level if you fulfill one of the following qualifications:
-EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
-OR-
-EDUCATION: Successful completion of two (2) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
-OR-
-COMBINATION: Equivalent combinations of education and general experience (as described above) to meet the requirements at the GS-4 level. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
