As a Protocol Specialist at NASA Ames Research Center, you will be responsible for planning and managing all aspects of site visits, meetings, and VIP tours for distinguished government, industry, academic, and foreign officials, including badging, itineraries, transportation, hotel, and restaurant recommendations. Serving as the subject matter expert for scheduling and facility access, you will coordinate and facilitate visits of distinguished guests from initial inquiry to final farewell.
Duties
Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Provides support for planning, developing, coordinating, and executing functions of the Protocol office at the NASA Ames Research Center.
Provides communication and scheduling support and coordination for the Center Directors and members of the Director’s staff.
Conducts orientation for the visitors in a schedule designed to fit the needs of the visitor and the command.
Coordinates a variety of special events to include ceremonies, receptions, luncheons, dinners, etc.
Plans and directs the conduct of visits to Ames Research Center by distinguished visitors including NASA Headquarters, Governmental Officials, VIP foreign national visitors and other notable guests.
Integrates the efforts of staff offices to perform an orientation for the visitors in a schedule designed to fit the needs of the visitors and Ames Research Center.
Ensures all support personnel (i.e., drivers, escorts, photographers, details, etc.) are thoroughly briefed and oriented on their respective responsibilities for the visit.
Creates detailed itineraries for distinguished visitors based upon time and place of arrival, size and significance of the group, background and interests, and length of stay.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-11, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level:
Coordinating high level visits and engagements;
Supporting event planning following protocol requirements;
Scheduling and preparing visitor information such as facility access or facilitating transportation.
OR
b) Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field
OR
c) Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in an appropriate field
OR
d) LL.M., if related
OR
e) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b), c) and d) above
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:
Utilizing protocol practices and techniques of communication;
Providing recommendations or solutions to cultural differences;
Conducting official visits in support of high-level personnel.
