The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for these positions is March-May, but may be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Duties

Multiple positions will be filled at multiple locations. Pay rates and amount of travel required will vary based on duty location. See Requirements section for details. Craters Of The Moon National Monument & Preserve : Arco, ID - Two GS-5 positions. Overtime may be required. Government housing may be available. Travel, including backpacking and camping for up to 12 days maybe required. Crater Lake National Park : Crater Lake, OR -One GS-6 position, Six GS-5 positions. Government housing may be available. Golden Gate National Recreation Area : San Franciso, CA - One GS-5 position. Government housing is available. Lassen Volcanic National Park : Mineral, CA - Three GS-5 positions. Government housing may be available. Point Reyes National Seashore : Point Reyes Station, CA - One GS-6 position. Evening and shift-work may be required. Government housing may be available. Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks: Sequoia National Park, CA - Three GS-5 positions. Overtime may be required. Evening and weekend work may be required. Government housing is available. Travel, including backpacking and camping in rough terrain maybe required. GS-05 Duties: Assists in conducting wildlife censuses and surveys and assembles basic on wildlife populations such as sex, habitat use, age structure, seasonal movement and harvest characteristics. Collects data on condition of forage, range or streams, and makes preliminary determinations on the nature of the cause of problems noted, such as drought, over-populations, toxins. Assists in the development of plans and guidelines on such issues as seasons of recreational use or hunting limits by collecting and compiling the specified data. Uses standard statistical methods and procedures in interpreting the field data gathered and applies these findings in preparing reports and correspondence relating to field activities. GS-06 Duties: Leads in conducting wildlife censuses and surveys and assembles basic on wildlife populations such as sex, habitat use, age structure, seasonal movement and harvest characteristics. Collects data on condition of forage, range or streams, and makes preliminary determinations on the nature of the cause of problems noted, such as drought, over-populations, toxins. Assists in the development of plans and guidelines on such issues as seasons of recreational use or hunting limits by collecting and compiling the specified data. Uses standard statistical methods and procedures in interpreting the field data gathered and applies these findings in preparing reports and correspondence relating to field activities. Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., packs and equipment up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis. Working Conditions: The work is performed in an office, laboratory, and in the field. Field work includes exposure to extreme weather and terrain conditions, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects, snakes, and wild animals. Laboratory work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals. This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

Requirements

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST or when the 'applicant cut-off' is reached (which may be sooner than11/22/2024). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: conducting wildlife field surveys to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, and population dynamics; assisting researchers in wildlife surveys and monitoring activities; mapping wildlife locations using a Global Positioning Systems (GPS) unit; working with field crews to implement wildlife projects; and to assist in long-term monitoring projects by following established protocols to compile, store, analyze and report on wildlife data using a variety of computer programs. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experienceas described above. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting this requirement. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. For example, six months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution which included at least 12 semester hours of related coursework as specified above, and at least 3 semester hours in wildlife biology (50% of the qualifying education). The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience for this position is work involving one or more aspects of conducting field inventory, monitoring, and management activities associated with a wildlife management program. This experience includes activities such as: conducting wildlife field surveys to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, and population dynamics; assisting researchers in wildlife surveys and monitoring activities; mapping wildlife locations using a Global Positioning Systems (GPS) unit; working with field crews to implement wildlife projects; and to assist in long-term monitoring projects by following established protocols to compile, store, analyze and report on wildlife data using a variety of computer programs. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 full year of progressively higher-level graduate study leading to a master's or equivalent level degree with major study in a directly related field such as biology, ecology, entomology, animal husbandry, mammalogy or zoology. You must submit transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the amount of completed directly related graduate education requirement and convert it to a percentage. Then take the number of months of full-time specialized experience and convert it into a percentage. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include hours per week worked and transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
