The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Klamath Inventory & Monitoring Network is July. Anticipated Entry on Duty: Mid-July 2024 Open to the first 125 applicants or until 11/22/2023 whichever comes first. Duties

You will be responsible for working on the Klamath Inventory and Wade-able Streams field crew, implementing the Klamath Inventory and Monitoring Network Wade-able Streams Long-term Monitoring Protocol under the guidance of the Network Aquatic Ecologist. Field work occurs in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and Lassen Volcanic National Park. You will either be the crew leader at the GS-07 level, or a crew member at the GS-05 level, and work as a team to accomplish the assigned tasks. You will be responsible for the safe implementation of the protocol. You will perform the following tasks associated with monitoring: measuring stream physical habitat; surveying lake amphibians, fish, and macroinvertebrates. measuring water quality parameters; and collecting water chemistry samples. You must follow all necessary protocols, including quality control/quality assurance steps. Crew members will perform the following activities: Perform aquatic ecosystem surveys comprising habitat, water chemistry, and biota (Fish, amphibians, invertebrates). Utilize technology to record collected data, maintain database, and quality check data. Navigate and access remote sites in rough terrain. At the GS-07 level: Provides advice, assistance, and training to lower graded technicians, and volunteers in gathering field data, including proper and safe handling of equipment, tools and operation of vehicles. Travel requirements will vary based on duty location. Travel will be up to 50% depending on the location. The duty station will be in Ashland, Oregon, or a combination of Whiskeytown and Mineral/Manzanita Lake. Government vehicles, per diem, camping equipment, and camp site will be provided while on travel. Physical Demands: The work requires physical exertion such as regular and recurring walking, hiking, or climbing over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending; crouching, stooping, lifting or reaching to observe, collect, or record field data; or in some situations the work may require physical exertion to scuba dive or operate a boat. The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., equipment and packs up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis. Working Conditions: The work is performed in an office, laboratory, and in the field. Field work includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals. Laboratory work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals. Government housing may be available.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST when the 'applicant cut-off' is reached (which may be sooner than 11/22/2023). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to: conducting biological aquatic surveys to obtain basic information for management of fish, amphibians, macroinvertebrates, and aquatic ecosystems; assisting researchers in aquatic surveys and monitoring activities; mapping locations using a Global Positioning Systems (GPS) unit; working within a field crew to implement aquatic projects; and assisting in long-term monitoring projects by following established protocols to compile, store, analyze and report on aquatic data using a variety of computer programs. Hours per week worked must be included in resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field of scientific or technical study, such as in biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position such as fisheries or aquatic biology. You must submit transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting this requirement. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. For example, six months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution which included at least 12 semester hours of related coursework as specified above, and at least 3 semester hours in directly related coursework such as fisheries or aquatic biology (50% of the qualifying education). The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must submit transcripts and include hours per week worked on the resume. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to: conducting biological aquatic surveys to obtain basic information for management of fish, amphibians, macroinvertebrates, and aquatic ecosystems; assisting researchers in aquatic surveys and monitoring activities; mapping locations using a Global Positioning Systems (GPS) unit; managing field crew workload and schedules to implement aquatic projects; and assisting in long-term monitoring projects by following established protocols to compile, store, analyze and report on aquatic data using a variety of computer programs. Hours per week worked must be included in resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree with a major study in a directly related field such as fisheries or aquatic biology. You must submit transcripts. COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of experience as described in experience and education described above. NOTE: Only directed related graduate education is creditable toward meeting this requirement. For example, six months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 9 semester hours of directly related graduate coursework from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must submit transcripts and include hours per week worked in the resume. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special prior­ity selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
