This position is for the Chief of Pharmacy Services at the Lawton Indian Hospital located in Lawton, Oklahoma. Incumbent is responsible for all matters pertaining to the Pharmaceutical Services provided, including traditional drug distribution activities as well as extensive clinical pharmacy services. This position reports to the Program Manager.

Duties

Supervises professional and support staff within Lawton Service Unit Pharmacies Plans improvements in pharmacy services. Directs the delivery of pharmacy services, including advances in clinical practice, efficient and effective drug distribution, and education to improve patient quality of life, minimize therapeutic risk and enhance clinical outcomes. Controls the utilization of departmental resources. Evaluates the overall performance of the pharmacy department.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: Applicant's qualifications background must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform the work of the position. Pharmacy work requires knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of medications, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to: Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects; Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations; Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program; Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens; Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications; Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or Maintaining all medication records required by law. Medical Requirement: Ability to distinguish basic colors. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Formulates and implements overall pharmacy program plans to satisfy patient load requirements, priorities for services, and other health care objectives. Performed comprehensive supervisory functions as a Pharmacy executive/manager for a Pharmacy department or medical facility, to include: determines staff duties and resource allocation, budget management, Supply/Acquisition Management Pharmacy Contracts, Performance Improvement projects, and/or Quality Assurance responsibilities; Served as a pharmacy consultant and/or advisor on drug affects and on the selection of industry recommended drug therapy for individual patients; Functioned as a primary care specialist using established standards of care to provide primary care to patients with stable chronic conditions who require medication and to patients with acute self-limiting illnesses.- Perform duties as an Inpatient, Outpatient, or Clinical Pharmacist and supervises all inpatient clinical activity and drug distribution, IV admixture services with responsibilities for planning training personnel and evaluation of quality of services utilizing national standards. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
