You will serve as a SUPERVISORY POLICE OFFICER in the FORCE PROTECTIN DIVISION of NS NORFOLK SECURITY DETACHMENT.

Duties

You will review and evaluate law enforcement staff actions for adherence to installation or training policies. You will monitor unusual situations or conditions through personal or electronic surveillance aids. You will respond to problems or questions involving the implementation of law enforcement and security guidelines. You will complete forms for documentation of events (e.g., issuing citations, interviewing witnesses).

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Selectee must pass the Police Officer Physical Agility Test (PAT) prior to being appointed.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You must attend and successfully complete all academic and physical requirements required for graduation from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, 12-weeks Uniformed Police Training Program.
  • You will be required to wear an assigned uniform and display official designated items or accessories to include additional required equipment. The employee must follow and adhere to DoN/CNIC grooming standards.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Apprehending and detaining individuals in cases ranging from minor incidents to felonies; 2) Performing inspections and investigative work to effect compliance of individuals with laws, rules, and regulations in the protection of life, property, and the civil rights of citizens; 3) Preparing detailed reports and citations concerning all incidents and actions taken; 4) Providing advice, guidance and instruction to police officers.
