About the Position: This position is located at 633d Air Base Wing, Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Public Health Flight, JBLE - Langley, Virginia. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Administer and perform duties related to the execution of a variety of public health programs within the Community Health Management and Force Health Elements. Apply preventive and public health knowledge, techniques, and skills to reduce the incidence of communicable diseases, occupational illnesses, food borne disease, and disease nonbattle injuries. Evaluate public health programs and recommends changes in policies and procedures. Educate the base population on the application and implementation of the public health programs. Conduct investigations and make recommendations in the presence of outbreaks related to communicable diseases and food borne diseases. Review and coordinate plans for renovation or construction of food serving facilities, commissaries, and warehouses.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • This position may require occasional travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a variety of protective equipment and/or clothing when performing site visits.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting safety sanitation inspections, identifying potential health hazards, and evaluating or recommending improvements for the industrial hygiene or occupational health processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Environmental Studies, Epidemiology, Health, Agriculture, Biology, Physical Sciences or Public Health. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
