About the Position: Incumbent provides technical support to the Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight, conducting and monitoring occupational and environmental health site assessments and special surveys, including anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling exposures to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards while performing industrial hygiene, radiological safety, environmental health and medical readiness assessments.

Duties
Monitor and conduct comprehensive and special industrial hygiene evaluations of work centers throughout the installation.
Perform industrial hygiene engineering calculations based on actual survey data or abstract estimates based on information from technical literature reviews or past experience.
Plan and accomplish extensive workplace sampling by reviewing applicable regulatory requirements prior to conducting evaluations and assessing hazards.
Accumulate information and material required for laboratory analysis and evaluation using standard sampling techniques and procedures.
Develop sampling strategies and apply recognized standards to perform analysis of some samples; the remainder of samples are sent back to the main laboratory for analysis.
Determine proper and effective corrective actions to reduce occupational hazards in the workplace.
Formulate specific recommendations for control of health hazards found.
Investigate installation worker job-related health problems such as injury compensation claims and environmental differential pay claims.
Prepare written educational reports on projects, surveys, publications reviewed, and investigations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate a vehicle.
- The incumbent of this position must be able to obtain a current government driver's license and will be required to operate a government vehicle in the performance of official duties.
- The incumbent may be required to perform TDY for training or other purposes; to travel by government or commercial conveyance and occupy government or commercial quarters.
- All employees assigned to a Medical Treatment Facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes, One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Conducting occupational and environmental health site assessments and surveys; 2) Identifying potential health hazards; and 3) Evaluating or recommending practices, controls or process changes to reduce or eliminate hazardous working conditions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Two years of graduate level education or a Master's in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Occupational Health or Environmental Health.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
