The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior technical subject matter expert (SME) performing and directing the engineering design, analysis, and modeling & simulation (M&S) of foreign aerospace, aerodynamic, and ballistic weapon systems.

Duties
Leads and performs professional engineering analysis of aerospace properties and flight mechanics of foreign aerospace, aerodynamic, and ballistic weapon systems.
Provides Intelligence support to enable military operations, force modernization, and policy making. Serves as an interface and interacts with DoD customers, Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), other US Intelligence Centers, and foreign allies to develop and define threat modeling and simulation (M&S) requirements and to meet those requirements in an efficient and effective manner.
Serves as an engineering consultant and technical expert to government officials, foreign partners, and government contractors.
Represents NASIC at various DoD, DOE, DHS, national and international level working groups to advocate NASIC's position on the characterization of threat weapons and to collaborate or support work involving modeling and simulation.

- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty. Prolonged periods of sitting, reading and intense data analysis are typical. This work is mostly sedentary performed in an office setting.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.
- A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required. An advanced degree in engineering is preferred.
- Position is designated special-sensitive, and incumbent must be able to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
Qualifications
This is a GG-13 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-13 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.
To qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements describes in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
EDUCATION: Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include a mastery of advanced electrical engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment sufficient to apply experimental theories, principles, and concepts to project development, research, execution, and advisory services. Requires strong technical competence, judgment, leadership, and resourcefulness to conceive and guide the successful conduct and reporting of projects in the mission area. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Professional knowledge of multi-disciplinary engineering (such as electronics, electrical, computer, aerospace, or mechanical disciplines, mathematics, computer science, or closely related fields) concepts, principles, standards, methods, techniques, practices, and procedures to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to the engineering design, analysis, and modeling & simulation (M&S) of threat systems.
Professional knowledge of principles, concepts, and methodologies of all-source scientific and technical intelligence (S&TI) analysis, modeling and simulation, software development, and the Defense Intelligence Analysis Program (DIAP).
Expanded knowledge of the mission, role, function, organizational structure, and operation of the DoD, Air Force, and Intelligence Community; and their communication and information infrastructures and organizations.
Skill and ability to gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning task progress and effectively communicate, including the presentation of technical problems and results in a logical and concise manner; skill and ability to apply practical thinking skills, attention to detail, balanced decision making, conceptual thinking, consistency, goal directedness, problem and situation analysis, reliability, and theoretical problem solving, emotional control, handling stress, initiative, job ethics, meeting standards, listening skills, personal accountability, commitment, and drive.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy; and ability to plan and organize work and consult effectively with co-workers and peers.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED:
Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
Work is normally performed in a regular office setting. Work is mostly sedentary and may require long periods of time working at a desk or computer terminal. Other physical activities may include standing to deliver briefings, bending to file and climbing stairs. The entire facility is handicap accessible. Incumbent may be required to travel outside NASIC to attend training, meetings, workshops or seminars in order to teach, receive or exchange information in their area of expertise. In doing so, incumbent may be required to travel locally, within or outside the country.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
