You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the FIRE PREVENTION DIVISION of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.

Duties

You will advise building officials on corrective action needed for code violations. You will participate in investigations into causes of fires by inspecting damaged areas or interviewing witnesses. You will determine correct water pressures for the heights to be pumped for both structural and wild land firefighting. You will implement a risk management plan in accordance with fire and emergency regulations. You will draft corrective plans of action for fire code violations observed during an inspection.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • The employee may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays. May be subject to recall. May be required to participate in on-scene firefighting duties during emergencies. These duties require heavy lifting and physical exertion.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting fire safety training to groups; 2) Eliminating or reducing hazards where the expectancy and potential for severity is high; 3) Inspecting buildings for potential fire hazards (e.g. obstructed exits, presence of combustible materials, etc.); 4) Adapting fire protection/prevention techniques to correct conditions or hazardous situations; and 5) Responding to emergencies to conduct firefighting duties. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities while performing inspections or demonstrations during training sessions. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee is exposed to out-of-control fires, HAZMAT spills, or possible explosions. May suffer from burns, dehydration, and other effects of heat; smoke inhalation, heavy protective clothing, falling materials, or explosions. Subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HAZMAT and high noise levels. Must deal with victims in emergency situations that may be in varying stages of fright, panic, injury, and shock. The employee works outside in all types of weather conditions. Ability to move charged fire hoses, fire extinguishers and other equipment. Must be able to wear protective clothing, such as firefighter ensembles weighing 50 - 60 pounds. Climbs ladders and works at various heights. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
