You will serve as an ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF of SHIPBOARD READINESS AND RESPONSE in the FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT of DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.

Duties

You will serve as a technical advisor in the management of a regional fire and emergency services program. You will train firefighters on airfield, shipboard, structural, confined space, and hazardous materials firefighting procedures. You will collaborate with fire fighter personnel to ensure emergency responses (e.g., fire suppression, injured victims, hazardous spill cleanup) are assigned. You will inspect fire apparatus, equipment, and stations to maintain supervision of operations You will maintain awareness of changes in federal, state, or local fire service ordinances and laws to convey information to junior employees. You will write reports of fire inspections performed, fire code violations observed, and corrective recommendations offered.

  • The employee is required to work Monday thru Friday with one shift 24 hours a week. Employee may be required to adjust work schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime and recall
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Shipboard fire suppression; 2) Support emergency operations as incident safety officer; 3) Evaluate shipboard fire prevention program to identify gaps in risk assessments; 4) Conduct training and advise ship leadership for shipboard response and support while in port; and 5) Perform supervisory duties such as managing, organizing, directing, providing technical leadership and guidance, assigning and prioritizing work, position management, evaluating work performance of subordinates and resolving disciplinary issues. This experience must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II and Hazmat Incident Commander. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached a copy of your transcript or certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
