Duties

You will serve as a Quality Assurance Specialist (SHIPBUILDING) in the San Diego, CA Detachment QA group of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING BATH. You will provide primary contractual and quality oversight of the Government contracted Shipbuilding and repair efforts. You will execute a Quality Assurance program tailored to the specific facility by the team lead, the Specialist continuously reviews and assesses the acceptability of the Contractor's QA program. You will document findings and concerns are captured for review by senior Navy and contractor personnel. You will record observations, concerns, corrective actions undertaken and issues still outstanding. You will apply extensive knowledge and experience in reading, interpreting and working to construction design and fabrication drawings. You will provide oversight focus to steel working processes utilized in modern ship building, including the cutting, shaping, forming, and joining of structural and plate steel; structural and pipe weld joint preparation.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing contractual and quality oversight of shipbuilding and repair efforts to identify problems for corrective action. Education

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields related to the position; OR
  • Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields related to the position; OR
  • An LL.M., if related to the position being filled; OR
  • A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
