Incumbent performs as a carpenter for construction projects performed under P&H (Purchase & Hire) Authority. Incumbent performs work involving construction, alteration, repair, or modification of items and structures such as metal stud framework, acoustical T-bar ceilings, drywall installation and finish, doors, frames and hardware, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trim, flooring, etc.
Position is Temporary, Time-Limited, Intermittent, and provides no benefits.
Duties
Major Duties include:
Incumbent performs work involving construction, alteration, repair, or modification of items and structures such as metal stud framework, acoustical T-bar ceilings, drywall installation and finish, doors, frames and hardware, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trim, flooring, etc., where accuracy spacing and fit are essential and structural soundness of appearance are important.
Plans and completes projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation. Must have knowledge of advanced shop mathematics to plan and compute more complex and exact projects. Incumbent performs partial demolition of wood, concrete, metal and brick structures, while protecting usable electrical, mechanical and plumbing components. Incumbent must be able to read, interpret, and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, operating manuals, and building codes. Incumbent must have knowledge of construction debris dust control procedures. Incumbent must work independently at the journeyman level and have a sound theoretical and practical knowledge of carpentry, construction methods, safety apparatus and associated equipment. Incumbent of this position must be knowledgeable of Industry Standards, VA and manufacturer's specifications to correctly determine methods and specialized techniques for work performance.
Work performed will require moderate to heavy physical effort (i.e. lifting and moving construction materials and supplies such as heavy plaster board, broken cement, steel/aluminum beams and studs, ladders, scaffolding, etc.). Incumbent is subject to working from scaffolds, ladders and mechanical lifts. Incumbent is required to use common hand anmd power tools and, specialized hand and power tools associated with the carpentry trade. Incumbent must be skilled in the maintenance and use of tools and equipment used in the performance of assigned work The incumbent must have knowledge of infection control guidelines, procedures and abatement technology solutions for minimizing the spread of particulates generated during construction activities within a Health Care Facility.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position requires physical effort, continual standing, bending, stooping, lifting, sitting, and reaching. The work also involves frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying items up to 20 pounds. There is occasional lifting up to 40-50 pounds. The work is performed indoors and outdoors.
