This vacancy is for an IT Specialist (AppSW) position in the Demographic System Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.

Duties
Analyze and evaluate work concerned with integrated systems of computer programs and/or computer equipment.
Apply available technologies and basic management principles to adapt computer methods to a variety of subject matter situations.
Support subject matter users by developing or designing applications for computers and/or in selecting or assisting in selecting computer equipment.
Respond to and resolve problems with software, hardware, and systems management.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Providing technical guidance in designing, coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining programs; Coordinating efforts to enhance software reliability; Translating and interpreting functional requirements; and testing, installing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining software and source code
AND
Basic Qualification:
In addition to the above specialized experience, your resume must demonstrate one year of Information Technology (IT) related experience in the federal service, private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
