About the Position: Serves as Engineering Technician (Electrical) responsible for design engineering and contract administration of a variety of electrical features and related electrical systems.

Duties

Carries out the full range of technical engineering functions associated with the mechanical and related electrical features of facility operations. Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment, and circuitry. Repairs and replaces a variety of system parts and components. Provides technical advice concerning system and equipment capabilities and limitations. Reviews product data and Operations and Maintenance (O and M) manuals prior to the start of each maintenance period. Recommends approval of preventative maintenance schedules to reduce impact to operations. Observes and investigates facility service, construction, and operations at all stages to identify problems related to electrical systems. Coordinates construction operations with contractors, utility companies, COR, Centers of Excellence/Standardization, and any other agency representatives. Experience alternating circuit (AC) systems equipment include 120/240-volt single-phase, 120/208/277/480-volt three-phase, and 4,160-volt distribution systems. Ensures strict adherence to safety provisions of the contract and facility. Review and recommended approval of facility service contracts and construction contracts as-built drawings and Operations and Maintenance (O and M) manuals.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is Mission Essential. Incumbent is not subject to administrative dismissal in emergencies created by inclement weather conditions or other emergency situations as appropriate.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical exam due to the physical requirement of the position.
  • Required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing, or obtain within first year of employment.
  • Required to have a valid state driver's license based on job-related, site- specific requirements.
  • Required to acquire and maintain appropriate Corps of Engineers equipment operating licenses based on site specific requirements.
  • Required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.

To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, you must have: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Ten (10) years of specialized experience maintaining and troubleshooting AC and DC power systems, conduit bending and threading, oscilloscope understanding and usage, and liquid filled battery maintenance. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: DesignElectricalProject ManagementQuality AssuranceTechnical Reviews Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent. GS-11 - Must have 52 weeks at the GS-10 grade level. GS-12 - Must have 52 weeks at the GS-11 grade level.
