This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as Engineering Technician (Mechanical) responsible for design engineering and contract administration. This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District, Operations Division, Waterway Project Office, Aquatic Control Section
Duties
Responsible for coordinating and carrying out maintenance activities for all mechanical systems and related electrical features.
Carries out the full range of field engineering functions associated with the mechanical and related electrical features of facility operations.
Interprets plans, specifications, and O and M manuals and makes recommendations for in house or contractor performed maintenance.
Coordinates construction operations with contractors and utility companies and ensures all parties are informed on status of construction or services.
Studies product data and manuals to determine if maintenance will up to the standards identified.
Checks and verifies technical data and physical work completion by contracted services.

- This position requires a pre-employment physical exam due to the physical requirement of the position.
- Required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing, or obtain within first year of employment.
- Required to have a valid state driver's license based on job-related, site- specific requirements.
- Required to acquire and maintain appropriate Corps of Engineers equipment operating licenses based on site specific requirements.
- Required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.

Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service which includes: applying technical engineering methods related to performing complex mechanical systems including but not limited to HVAC systems, pumps, motors, and drives.
Specialized Experience GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service which includes: performing or providing direction on the repair or troubleshooting of complex mechanical systems at the journeyman level. Is familiar with and has experience with complex HVAC systems, liquid cooling systems, pumps, motors, and drives.
