About the Position: This position serves as the Chief of the Surveys and Mapping Branch for the US Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, Operations Division located in Jersey City, New Jersey. The Branch Chief is responsible for the overall planning, scoping, and direction for executing all surveying requirements for the District.
Duties
Pursues the implementation of the latest developments in surveying technologies.
Manages the coordination and accomplishment of the planning, scoping, and directing of the surveying mission.
Develops and implements quality control measures for all aspects of district hydrographic surveys work.
Performs day-to-day supervisory and management work providing policy decisions on both technical and administrative matters.
Works with project managers to prepare overall plans, schedules, and programs funds on surveying matters.
Participates in formulating long-term plans and programs in performing executive functions relating to personnel management, program review and evaluations.
Plans and directs the activities of personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 25% of the time.
- This position requires walking for prolonged periods of time over uneven terrain and aboard sea going vessels.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Experience in managing hydrographic surveying and geospatial data processing; and 2) Experience in planning, budgeting, and scheduling of survey requirements; and 3) Performs Personnel Management responsibilities to ensure productivity and efficient use of resources; and 4) Provides technical and policy advice, guidance, recommendations on surveying matters. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
