About the Position: As the Engineering Technician working in the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, New York District in Jersey City, New Jersey, you will report to the Branch Chief of the Survey Section in Operations Division.
Duties
Computes the scale for features and chart sizes to clearly depict the desired information to maintain industry standards.
Performs yardage computations for dredging contracts.
Provides expertise on availability and feasibility of various cartographic methods and techniques.
Operates a CADD (computer-aided design and drafting) and GIS (geographic information system) to construct base overlays for navigation charts.
Utilizes various applications and survey data to generate a product that is used for dredging.
Performs comprehensive edits of plots, manuscripts, and resource material to verify accuracy of the charts.
Digitizes bank lines and physical features to develop and update digital line drawings from field work sheets, aerial photographs, or other data.
Compiles Information from previous charts, private organizations, other state and federal agencies, and field worksheets to create base maps.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires you to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE450) upon entry, and annually thereafter.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; 1) Using CADD (computer-aided design and drafting) for drawings; 2) Utilizing surveying data to design charts; and 3) Performing calculations used for civil work projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
