About the Position: Accomplishes a variety of military personnel actions requiring substantial knowledge of the requirements, and procedures of military personnel programs and operations and the legislative, regulatory, policy, and procedural requirements applicable to the military personnel management program.

Duties

Provides regulatory guidance on all aspects of military personnel operations. Coordinates assignment instructions for all incoming and outgoing soldiers. Council's soldiers and eligible family members on retirement and separation processing. Assists retirement eligible personnel or family members with their elections for the Survivors Benefits Plan (SBP). Administers the authorization of benefits under the Former Spouse Protection Act.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Processing military personnel actions such as in and out processing, records/systems updates, Soldier Readiness processing, deployment processing, reassignments, retirements, separations, promotions, and evaluations. 2) Utilizing personnel programs such as Integrated Personnel and Pay System (IPPS-A), Interactive Personnel Electronic Records Management System (iPERMS), Transition Processing (TRANSPROC) to process actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
