Duties
You will perform all certifications and testing of ship gear.
You will manufacture various wire and fiber rope items such as cargo nets, rope ladders, slings, standing, running rigging, lifting gripes, and towing gear.
You will operate forklifts and trucks.
You will place sling and if necessary spreader bars to move equipment without damage.
You will assure that personnel are clear of load and crane envelop/fall zone while lift is in progress.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Incumbent may be assigned to perform tasks in non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workload requires.
- Must obtain Explosive Qualification/Certification from the NWS Earle's Qualification/Certification Board within 30 days of employment. Must complete mandatory Naval Crane Center training course in accordance with the NAVFAC P-307.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain within 180 days of employment a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform duties of a RIGGER without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Understand basic math to determine weights, stresses, strengths and/or mechanical advantage of lifts; 2) Selecting and installing weight handling gear used in lifting, moving, and positioning a variety of large and heavy objects; 3) Perform difficult load routing judgments using factors such as size, shape and location. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
