You will serve as a Rigger in the Production Division of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will perform all certifications and testing of ship gear. You will manufacture various wire and fiber rope items such as cargo nets, rope ladders, slings, standing, running rigging, lifting gripes, and towing gear. You will operate forklifts and trucks. You will place sling and if necessary spreader bars to move equipment without damage. You will assure that personnel are clear of load and crane envelop/fall zone while lift is in progress.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 180 days of employment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Must obtain Explosive Qualification/Certification from the NWS Earle's Qualification/Certification Board within 30 days of employment. Must complete mandatory Naval Crane Center training course in accordance with the NAVFAC P-307.
  • Call back, emergency overtime and short notice shift changes are regular requirements for this position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: (1) Understanding basic math to determine weights, stresses, strengths and/or mechanical advantage of lifts; 2) Selecting and installing weight handling gear used in lifting, moving, and positioning a variety of large and heavy objects; 3) Performing difficult load routing judgments using factors such as size, shape and location.
