Duties

You will troubleshoot repairs, modify, and test a variety of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and air conditioning aviation ground support units. You will disassemble various systems and components of Aviation Ground Support Equipment and replaces or repairs necessary parts such as bearings, ignition units, magnate units, steering systems and similar assemblies. You will repair, align, inspect and test various systems, such as power drives, transmissions, clutches, hydraulic actuators, pumps, valves and control systems. You will remove and replace major components such as engines (diesel and gas), generators, and jet start engines.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • May be required to lift up to 40 pounds on occasion.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is I have the ability to perform common tasks including:1) Performing mechanical and automotive electrical repairs for various types of Ground Support Equipment; 2) Examining ground support equipment to: locate area of defective operation/breakdown, diagnose malfunction, determine depth of repair or rework required, and material requirements; 3) Assembling and reassembling various systems and components of ground support equipment and replacing or repairing parts to complete repairs; and 4) Measuring and working within close tolerances, clearances, and specifications.
