About the Position: This position is working for the Defense Health Agency, Army Medical Center Madigan, Department of Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy located at Tacoma, Washington.

Duties
Prepare compounding medications.
Determine type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity of medication prescription to be dispensed.
Prepare unit dose oral medications.
Prepares full range of sterile products - parenteral, parenteral nutrition and intravenous additives
Selects components and computes quantities; sets up, operates, and maintains common and specialized instruments and equipment; and performs mixing and blending of substances.
Packages and labels products and ensures that they are properly handled, stored, and accounted.
Prepares additives in strict compliance with procedures and techniques.
Reviews orders for compatibility and additives, converts instructions to proper units and measures, and calculates the quantity of solution required based on concentration, interaction, dosage, number of doses, loss in processing, etc.
Assist supervisor in inventory, stock of control and accounting for pharmaceuticals to include controlled substances.
Prepare related reports, establish, and maintain patient files from a variety of manual and automated records system concerning pharmacy operations.
Rotate pharmacy stock and expired medication checks.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The incumbent must successfully complete a pre-placement medical examination.
- Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
- This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 5% of the time to various locations.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential" in the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes verifying accuracy of pharmaceutical labels; utilizing automated pharmacy systems to enter and retrieve data; processing and filling prescription orders; compounding medications; and rotating /inventory of pharmacy stock. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study in pharmacy, or that included at least 24 semester hours in pharmacy-related courses.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
